What evidence is there for the use of 2ND PATTERN FG42 in Normandy?

Cheers

Ian

I have seen a number of pictures of the FG 42 type 2 being used in normandy, but do not have any at hand or know where to find some i am afraid. I also recall seing a type 1 being used aswell

I would say type one is more common in Normandy, you very rarely see type 2's and they are usually post Normandy. Northern Italy, Holland and Germany. Never seen a pic of a FG42 in Russia.

Hi Paul/jon

I have 'death from above' and other books about Fg42,thats why I asked the question, seems that everyone uses second pattern ones for Normandy when its impossible for them to have been there, production only started in sept 44 and only VERY limited production, full scale production did not start till 1945 so why do lots of fj reenactors still use them for Normandy scenarios?

The manual for the G pattern FG42 is dated sept 44 and manuals are produced before troop issue

The 2 pics I have seen of second pattern FG42s in use in WW2 are the famous Berlin picture and the picture in Brian L Davis book about Luftwaffe gear and the guy has K98 pouches!

Anyone got any other pics of second pattern FG42s in use in WW2?

Cheers

Ian

believe paul is right about the post normandy thing, books arent nessesarily correct on there date captions and as you said, evidence suggest that early production didnt start untill sept 44.

so ignore my post then :P :)

Well done, you have found a glitch in the Fallschirmjäger impression, well done. But don't sit on a pedastal and gloat, its quite ugly. The point of these forums is to share info and help each other out, not ' you there, you look s**t' and I know why but I'm not telling you'.

It appears to be a very expensive glitch too Paul. And one that people just can't help themselves with either. Especially when it's blank firing.

Well, i helped myself, and bought one. At the end of the day, there are a few in use by reenactors. They don't get hung up on the fact that these are 2nd pattern. They accept that these are the only version available. Section 5 hire isn't always available at events, so the requirement is to bring along "what you have". Not everyone can get an FAC either. No-one is getting upset, or making comments about it, except your good selves. Fair enough, you've raised a valid point. But, the situation won't change(unless someone begins producing 1st pattern versions, then again, i still wouldn't change mine for that reason alone). So, unfortunately, you'll just have to accept their(2nd pattern) useage, and appearance.

Ridiculing people for using them, isn't really "cricket", is it?

My thoughts and opinions, and not looking for a "web-fight"

Maybe this is one of those times when we don’t need to be 101%

But what would be said if we ‘rocked up’ as 506ECo all armed with BF M1A1 Thompson’s all 15 of us because that’s all that’s available in US BF… I think we may get one or two incoming…. Of all 15 of us have a P14………..

Yes we all know how expensive it is the hire and fire and a BF is not that cheap an option, so yes we understand…

Maybe it’s just a part of the hobby that we have to except will never be 101% on the button
