Do you know what sarcasm is?
Did you really think such a brief and almost obvious quip was a suggestion to ban reenacting a group based solely on the most insignificant link?

I could also have suggested banning pirate reenactment for the skull symbology, although not all pirates used the traditional skull and crossbones.

Maybe the more important question isn't why do people do ss. But why do others feel that those that do have to constantly validate their reasons for doing so.

i read it as a joke too ..

same s**t tho same day

shame we are not seen as reenactors regardless of what is reenacted
but seen as nazi's
which we clearly are not

That's really the key here. This has nothing to do with W-SS re-enactors trying to whitewash what the Nazis did. It has everything to do with re-enactors of other impressions holding W-SS re-enactors to a standard of political purity that they don't even hold themselves to.

German re-enactors in general, and W-SS re-enactors specifically need to have a mental toughness that others don't because their motivations will always be questioned. It is understandable, though irritating, if the public and the press attack W-SS re-enactors. But the sanctimonious attitude that other re-enactors - who should know better - have toward W-SS re-enactors gets very tiresome. I re-enacted W-SS for 4 years, and I never got as much grief from the general public as I did from other re-enactors.

It's quite ironic really, I have been portraying Kriegsmarine full-time for the past 2 years and haven't witnessed a fraction of the negativity I used to as a W-SS re-enactor. However, despite that we still overhear the odd comment, such as at Damyns Hall at the weekend from a female MOP:

'It's disgusting, it shouldn't be allowed. I had relatives who died during the war."

To paraphrase Basil Fawlty..

"What do you expect to see when you attend a 1940's WW2 event? A herd of wildebeest sweeping across the plains of the Serengeti? .. Krakatoa erupting on the horizon? ...."

Make this man the new pope!
The most honest, straight forward post I have ever seen on the subject.

Well said that man!

As sensible/truer a post you will struggle to find, spot on.

Carry on chaps.
