Hey i was at detling this year but i didnt get a chance to talk to you , you were oposite the french wernt you?
I have a great intrest in the finnish army from 1939 to 1945 and to be honest i didnt know a group existed in england.
Well me and some family and friends were thinking of doing reenacting and we got some deactivated rifles at Detling that i belive fit the war, there is a 1937 mosin nagant rifle, a 1917 swedish mauser and a mosin nagant carbine but that is dated 1944 so it wouldnt have been used in the 1939 winter war, I would like to know where to get the uniform and are there any specific finnish events in the UK.

hi,
i was on my own at detling so i was with the U-boat Society (which i'm also a member of) opposite the italians.
the german gebirgsjagers(another excellent group!) were also in winter camo so they may have been the ones opposite the french chaps.

all the deacts sound good, i myself have a 1928 dated mosin, a suomi KP/31 SJR (the one introduced in 1942/43) and a DP-1928 (1942 dated).
i'll dig out some more info for you at the weekend for kit/uniforms etc.

all the best,
rich

sorry it's been longer than i anticipated, here's a few links that may be useful......
apologies if you already know them.......

Milpro in finland, they have m/36 caps, m/39 summer caps and m/36 summer tunics(from the film Tali-Ihantala 1944)
http://www.milpro.fi/index.cfm?action=s ... =iiiiyqetq

italian company with very expensive repro winter tunics etc (i've not dealt with them so not sure what there service is like)
http://www.italianfront.com/finnishWW2.htm

us site, good for fieldgear but not the repro uniforms/caps
http://www.kevos4.com/

a few ebay sellers that are good for fieldgear and sometimes original uniform items
"40swan" "adv-ent" "alten39" and "krads540" amongst others.

i'm trying to see if i can get a uk maker for winter tunics in the future, probably won't be a cheap option though.

good site with info on fieldgear
http://netti.nic.fi/~junkyard/index.html

finnish site good for gun parts and occasionally militaria
http://swat-team.fi/index.php?lang=fi

us site with a few bits of finnish stuff
http://www.ostfront.com/Merchant2/merch ... ore_code=O

interesting japanese site that also does repro uniforms/gear
http://flitz.web.infoseek.co.jp/sotavaeki1.html
http://werkstattelbe.fc2web.com/ladensuomi.html
http://werkstattelbe.fc2web.com/ladensuomi_e.html

another good site and publisher of the essential "Asepuku M/36" book by Petteri Leino (if you haven't got it, get it!)
http://www.wiking.fi/eng/company.htm

Anyway hope some of them help,

Regards,
rich

Terve Rich!
I am a member of a group reenacting Jägers. We are based in Sweden, but have members in Finland. We recently took part in a show at Parola Tank Musuem near Hämeen Linna, and are looking for contacts in Britain. I am guessing there are certain items of kit that are scarce in Britain, which we have good sources for. Get in touch if you're interested...
