Hi Guys
thanks for the welcome. I hope to get a number of us involved. Unfortunetly we are on this side of the Irish Sea. However I would like to make it over to at least one event next season. What would be the best event to come to? Beltring?
I would like to get a small squad going over here and it would be excellent if you could give us the benefit of your wealth of experence. Who knows, we might get some of you over here where WW2 is starting to take off and the scene is very exciting at the moment.
all the best

Hugh

Hi again Hugh!

This year was my first in WW2 and with the 2nd Guards (but I have been re-enacting 15 years now!) - but my personal suggestion for an event would be Detling rather than Beltring. Beltring is more of a military vehicle show, whereas Detling is re-enactors first and vehicles second!

Although there are LOTS of traders at Beltring, quite a large number are dealing in vehicle parts (although if that is what you are into then it'll be perfect!) Detling does have some vehicle bits sellers, but it also has a large number of stalls for the re-enactors.

Also, at Beltring this year, the 2nd Guards only had a static display (which a lot of the public commented was, in their opinion, the best there, as we were actually doing something, and talking to them too!) At Detling, we were providing one of the WW2 display battles, fighting against SS troops, as well as living history camping.

SO, just my 2 roubles worth - hope that is some help, and hope to see you next year! (Or maybe even sooner!)

Da! Is very good!

The 2nd Guards "Tamanskaya" Rifle Division was and is (it still exists in Moscow today) the elite of the Soviet and now the Russian Army.

Hopefully we do them justice.

We certainly really put "our all" into it and have a lot of fun in the process!

Hi
Got in contact with Paul who recomended Trident as a good company for buying stuff from. Had a look at the kit which looks very good. Kit is sold in two colours, green and Khaki. What would be the best colour to go for? What would fit in best with the rest of the unit?

Hugh

Hello Hugh!

Yes, I bought kit from Trident too and they are a good company to deal with! However, I have also bought from Ostfront, and they are very good too - so I would recomend both!

When you are looking at Tridents website, look out for the uniforms describes as 'Our Best'. These are what they were describing as their second generation uniforms a while ago, and were recomended to me by Ray, CO of the 2nd Guards. They are a little more expensive, but I think they are good repros! (Although this is coming from someone who has been re-enacting Soviet only one year...) Also, I was e-mailing Trident when I was getting kitted up, and they said they are trying to run down stocks of the cheaper uniforms, and haven't got all of the sizes. BUT, if cost is a bit of a consideration, then see if they have your size in the other uniforms - and the best colour to go for would be the khaki - this will match in with the rest of the group better!

BTW - what size chest are you? I am a 44 inch chest, and bought a 44 inch chest 1935 tunic from them. Trouble is, I think they are literally 44 inches round the chest, and is a little snug on me... (Although I could do with losing a little weight.) SO, I may consider selling it on to someone who it will fit!

I have a pair of summer weight sharovari breeches for sale if your interested - they're a 32 waist and are a light khaki colour.
