The Reichsgrenadier Division “Hoch- und Deutschmeister” re-enactment group presents an impression that we believe is unique to the UK re-enactment scene and which endeavours to show a different aspect of the Axis fighting forces in WW2 –that is of Germanys neighbours & allies Austria and Hungary – the former absorbed into Germany in 1938, the latter a once staunch ally but now a reluctant one following the German seizure of power in Hungary in 1944 - all now fighting for the very survival of their own countries and that of the Third Reich and attempting to protect Germany’s precarious hold on its last oil resources in the Hungarian oilfields and ultimately to keep its limping war effort going!

The real Reichsgrenadier Division “Hoch- und Deutschmeister” Division was transferred from the Italian Front, to Hungary in the southern sector of the Eastern Front in late 1944, lead elements from this elite Army division (a division raised in Austria) - were hastily formed into a Kampfgruppe (a battlegroup led by Major Leitner) and were thrown into immediate action against the Russians. Other units were absorbed into this battlegroup to supplement their fighting capabilities and to buy time until the rest of the division arrived on the scene having been delayed on-route due to Allied and Soviet aerial attacks. With this scenario in mind, our group will be displaying in 2012 as a tank hunting team from 3Kp/I/RGR “Hoch- und Deutschmeister” serving as part of “Kampfgruppe Leitner”, seeking out Soviet armour ably supported by elements from the various Hungarian Volunteer divisions, raised by the SS – the “Hunyadi” and “Hungaria” –– also fighting in that theatre at that time in defence of their homeland.

We are a non-political group of military enthusiasts who excel in showing the public what it was like to be a soldier fighting for the Axis Powers during the latter stages of the war. We are a small group (12 in number), with lots of 'tank-hunting' & infantry weapons & kit and we also have a replica Motorcycle & sidecar & ancillary equipment that we can add to our display to give the correct period feel. Our members all work really well with the public, a facet not many groups can allude to, but it is something that we are very proud of! We are also a member group of the All Fronts Re-enactment Association (AFRA), all our members are also fully insured for public liability and additionally we have many years experience in the WW2 re-enactment world and have featured regularly at many of the biggest military shows in the UK in years gone by such as the War & Peace Show, The Victory Show, the Muckleburgh Tank Museum, Fortress Wales and the Bovington Tank Museum’s Tankfest as well as smaller shows such as Lincs Wolds Railway, Tutbury Castle, GCR, CVR and NYMR 1940's weekends.

If you are interested in joining our group, the Reichsgrenadier Division 'Hoch- und Deutschmeister' then please drop me a line at panzer.grenadier@blueyonder.co.uk

How do you get across the whole difference that being Austro-Hungarian brings to it?

Just a different angle to talk to the public about and knowing & being able to explain the history of the two seperate sections. The 'Hoch- und Deutschmeister' itself has a very long tradtion that goes back to the time of the crusades and it still exists in the Austrian Army today, that gives us plenty to talk about.

Similarly our Hungarian section know their history too.

Apologies for the delay but here is the link for our website:

http://rgd-hoch-und-deutschmeister.org.uk/page1.php

In 2014 we are planning to continue displaying as the Reichsgrenadier Division "Hoch-und Deutschmeister" during it's period of deployment in the Italian theatre during 1943 -1944.

We are also actively looking to recruit new members this year , so if you are interested in joining a group with a slight difference (see above) and in a theatre that is slightly underrepresented in the UK, then you can message me on here or click on the link on the recruitment page on the website to send me a private e-mail & I'd be more than happy to get in touch with you to discuss matters further.
