A good run out at "Festival of the Forties" last week. Our display featured an early war Heer Bicycle infantry unit entitled "Tour de France 1940"
The professional photographers had a field day with the group providing a 10 man unit on period bikes.
Public enjoyed it along with our FRAU medical display which is always a hit.

Cleethorpes next or operation Seagull. If you're in the area, drop by and say hello!

Well victory was a great show, we were displaying alongside gd recon and panzer gd on the battlefield section. Both of the above are great groups and we look forward to working with you again in the future.
Our display was a Pionier section, I also dragged out the field kitchen for an airing!

On now towards levisham, the book closes on this one soon. If you fancy something a bit different look in the event threads and see what it's about, then give us a shout.

Big build up to our "Home" event at Levisham, NYMR on the 10-12th October.

Stop in for a chat if you can. Good scenario this year with lots to see.
Were always on the look out for prospective new members with a good work ethic and a sense of fun.

If I don't get another chance, may I take this opportunity to wish all a very pleasant festive season, regardless of denomination
See you all at a show in 2015!

With the closed season well underway, our new build projects started or starting, the odd private event and training taking place, I would like to take the opportunity to point out that if there are any new/prospective members looking to join this year, we will be closing the recruitment period in early March.
This will enable orientation and training to take place before the show season gets under way.

So if you're out there, looking for a group that does lots of interesting events, challenging scenarios (rather than sitting in a field), builds virtual copies of anything it dreams, trains like its 1939 and parties like its 1999, then get your skates on!
Apply ASAP............... :D

(Please note: Applicants must complete a period of orientation that may or may not lead to membership)

The groups first public outing of the year will be:
11th-12th April “The Forties Family Experience IX”, Lincolnsfield Centre, Watford

The group will be providing a late war display based around “Das Reich” relief of Prague (1945)
The perfect opportunity to see the group in action performing a scenario never before produced in the UK re-enactment scene.
One of many new scenarios we have written over the winter.

Well a very successful display scenario. Many thanks to the elements that supported it.
We performed the 6-7 minute skit, complete with gunfire and a small pyro element a total of 32 times over the two days to great feed back from the audience. (I'm not sure if the adjoining golf course was best pleased though)
Big thanks to Bob (of fighting 40's fame) for capturing some of it on film.
An example here:

Thanks Wullie. We try to put a bit of extra into our displays/scenarios/skits to improve the publics enjoyment in a small way.
Glad that, as one of our peers, you thought it worthy.

Post subject:  Re: W.A.R.S. Das Reich

Thank you.
I'm told the scenario was even better to watch "in the flesh" so to speak!

This was the level 2 Script for the piece:
The group will be providing a late war display based around “Das Reich” relief of Prague (April 1945)

Historical Premise
One of Das Reich last missions was a humanitarian one. Civilians, mostly women and children, were trapped within Prague, a city with a closing ring around it. The threat of partisan uprising and the rapidly advancing Russians meant that a time window to effect rescue was critically narrowing. A column of Das Reich (principally Der Fuhrer regiment) vehicles blast their way into the city. Load civilians from agreed centres then quickly blasted their way out, saving the civilians.

Set-up
Our usual spot near a hard-standing to the east, bunkers to the West and a metalled road North/South.
Information boards explaining the display will be installed along with a suitable street and city road signs.

A vehicle column will be set up with both Das Reich Combinations in front, then KP1 222, Das Reich truck, Pete Sterns carrier then Kp1 combination in the rear. Crews will stay on or by their vehicles. Accompanying infantry will be in a de-bussed defensive state around the vehicles. All will be dressed as Das Reich troops.

On the hard standing to the East, we will set up a dining shelter as a civilian holding area, all of our boxes/fuel cans etc will be centred here. The area will have some Heer guards (Generic, non specialised), but will be principally populated with re-enactors portraying civilians (All girls and some guys, including myself)

Display premise
The vehicle column is a stationary display. As members of the public come down the road, we will engage them in conversation, explain the premise of the display and if there are a few together ask them “Now that you know what the display is about, can you help us?”
Suitable members of the public will be taken to the dining shelter, issued a box or blanket or suitcase. They will be briefed on what we want them to do and to sign a disclaimer.

Act 1
The vehicle crews are by or in their vehicles.
Defensive infantry (W-SS only) provide security and are in a state of heightened awareness.
All civilians, involved MOP’s and Heer infantry are by the dining shelter and tent.
The road way is temporarily blocked for the duration of the scenario.
Weapons are loaded by the designated safety officer

Act 2
KP1 combination drives from the rear of the column to a point opposite the dining shelter
The Driver points to the rear and shouts “The partisan's are coming, we need to move now!" then drives to the head of the column.
Shots from the defensive infantry ring out!
Column vehicles start their engines.

Act 3
A whistle blows and the column commander shouts for the civilians to be loaded.
The civilians run to the vehicles and board with the assistance of the Heer troops
Once all civilians are loaded (No Heer), the column commander gives the signal to move out.
Shots continue to be heard! (A male civilian will be denied access to the column due to lack of space. Small scuffle)

Act 4
The column commander blows his whistle.
All engines are shut down
The column commander thanks the MOP’s for their assistance, hopes they enjoyed the experience and calls on the re-enactors to applaud their efforts. He reminds them that 70 years ago scenes like this would have been common. The fear the people felt, real.
All weapons that fired during the scenario are checked by the designated safety officer and made safe
The Heer troops and vehicle crews assist the civilians and MOP’s to de-buss.
Display re-sets back to beginning.
It is expected that this scene will be performed once per hour and last a maximum of 7 minutes.

We had to make some tweeks, but by and large, this was the display as we performed it.
Full RAMS were of course provided and we ran through it a dozen times before the public even got there.
A bit of theatre, but we love this sort of display :D
