Hope you all take a look at this, A very detailed site on all aspects of the K98K and all Mauser derived rifles.
The shooting clinic section has some good tips on renovation of old woodwork.
I've just renovated my all matching S/42 1937 woodwork to the tips on this page and it looks gorgeous.
