Point to you sir.

Big gun, I myself researched this very topic when I had my No4 drilled for a "T" modification, contacted the Police FAO and Birmingham Proof House, both stated in writing that it was LEGAL to carry the work out, as it was not replacing pressure bearing parts or converting it to fire or discharge shot.

(how is my former lovely No4 Danny? lol)

Same as what I did Andy, but sadly it's not good enough for Big Gun by the looks of it...

Research is the key, I suggest you go do it yourself instead of relying on what someone else has told you, especially with the law, then come back and tell us your findings...

I remember buying a SMLE Bayonet from WWA some years ago with a hook Quillon.

I bet you would regret sending it back now, given how much money a hooked Quillon bayonet is worth nowdays

There is no need to change safety. It's up to you. The long safety does look great. I'm buying one next week hopefully at detling, then I can fit it lol.

Yes there is. You cant use a normal safety on a K98 fitted with a scope, hence why the long flag type safety is fitted.

BTW, I own and shoot 3 scoped K98s

Still can use safety. Makes it harder I agree. Many examples dont have the long fitted one on it. I however do prefer mine with it on. Easier to use.

The BBC have indeed filmed a German sniper doc or ppart of a doc set onD- Day. Heer I think . Based on true story. There aren't that many famous German snipers around the bocage that I can think of

Hello everyone,
apologies for my late reply, and it seems quite a few things have still been going on since I was last on, not mentioning any names!

I have my rifle, it's a BCD 4 coded rifle. I'll get some pictures on as soon as I can. Apart from still needing to get an LSR mount from accumounts, it is just an original scope that I can't seem to find!

In the end I got my rifle from WWA, and to my surprise, it's not a RC, but one from Albania so it is full original condition, but non matching numbers, so it's good for a 'repro' project.

Also Merry Christmas everyone :D

Patrick.

Hello Eberhard,

Yes this thread is very interesting and has some useful info in it for sure!

As for my K98, I have actually since sold the LSR mount I had bought, and am looking to sell the non RC orig phosphated rifle and an excellent original phosphate LSR late war Ajack 4x90 scope at some point, pictures of which I've added below. The reason for doing this is mainly due to a slight change in direction, in that I am really trying to get money together for an MP44 of all things :D

Best regards,

Patrick

Hi Patrick

Many thanks for the pictures, good luck getting the mp44, the 'daddy' of assault rifles.

I was interested in the thread for ideas as doing a sniper impression myself. Did not fancy converting my k98, but decided on the idea of using a captured Russian rifle as some German snipers preferred these to the k98, so brought a Moshin Nagant with a PU scope.

Slowly getting there, sourced a German sniper veil the other day so will ready for displaying at the War & Peace show in July.

Good luck with the mp44.

Regards

Eberhard

Patrick,

Shame about the rifle as you did all the hard work getting the bits together. Would have looked good.

How much you looking to sell the scope for? May be interested as I am thinking of adding the traditional zf39 set up to my rile as well.

Good luck with the 44. It's a lovely weapon.
