Was cleaning the bolt on my k98 the other day as it was covered in cak from the last event, and I accidentaly cought the catch that releases the back end (uncle has recently oiled it and went a little over the top with the oil so it was loose) any advice on how to reset it, was thinking of mounting it in a vice, pushing the catch in again and trunign the bolt handel again, having looked at it i think this would work seeing as this is basicly what happens when its in the gun.

do you mean that it went from cocked position to fired condition?

if so, basically you are thinking along the right lines, best to grip in a vise as you can recock it against any hard edge but this way is safer for your pinkies ;)

yes you got it, its now in the ready possition (grrrr) need to put it in a vice to replicate the breach block holding it so it can be cocked, tried doing it by hand hahahahah, what a mistake, doh.

not tried that yet only found out at the weekend how to do it, the safety goes to the middle slot and you unscrew the whole thing, not sure i want to try it as knowing me i will break it lol.

It's not as difficult as you think, just remember to to set the safety in the middle position and you'll be fine.

K98s really really easy to strip inc bolt and every German soldier should be able to :D
..Glad you got it sorted..much more difficult to describe something like bolt reset than to actually do ( about 5 secs! )
