I have in my collection a 1916 dated Gew 98 that has been cut down to the length of a Kar 98..

It has WW2 wood work, and bent over bolt, but it still has its original WW1 rear sight and WW1 for-end metal work with the little hook to tighten up the sling.

I notice, this rifle has a WW1 straight bolt and the small hook on the for-end metal work...

I could be a cut down WW1 rifle converted into a WW2 pattern and used during WW2

when i was looking to buy my K98 quite a few stalls at showes tried to sell me what they claimed were k98's and many of them had straight bolts such as this, so it could like the others have said be a version not made in germany.
