Anybody know why the k98s magazine capacity was never increased?
The number of times 5 rounds is not enough in battles is to many to count. You would have thought that with the advent of the G41 & 43 they would have put the 10 round box mag onto the k98?
I know in WW1 they tried a 15 round box thereby giving you 20 rounds but its very cumbersome, one of our guys has used one .

odd <looks left then right> where is he?

Didnt know the Germans used a box magazine for a K98 sniper?? Where did they fit it!? :? There is no cut out under the bult in magazine only a metal plate connected to the trigger-guard. Ahhh yes, Mr Dalby will sort me out (come on Mr Dalby, please, I'm confused :? )

Silly question: why would a sniper need a larger mag capacity???? Surely five rounds is (more than!) enough before you have to move anyway...

If the K98 had a box mag the shoulder arms postion might have been changed as happened to the SMLE rifle drill, maybe the Pussian spirit didn't like it :? , also the K98 came from a family of sporting guns, they might not like the idea of the skin head little brother? .

The WW1 German re-enactors at Detling told me that the "Trench Mag" was not specifically for Sturmtruppen, but for "whoever could get them" (As I asked if they were specialised for stormtroops(

Simple answer: 5 rounds stops you blatting off like a titty. Means you choose your target, make them count, instead of just firing 'em all off in two seconds flat. Doesn't matter if it's a 10 round or 5 round magazine, Murphys Law says you'll all be re-loading at the same bloody time :D

Leave the firepower to your LMGs and HMGs, the rifle is not about laying down fire

The extended magazines were actually MG 13 Mags converted to replace the standard mag of the 98k.
