I just received a K98 stock it is a laminated stock with a cupped butt plate has milled front and rear bands. It also has 2 cross bolts in it one where you normally see one and one further back towards the stock just behind the bolt depression on the right side of the stock. Why and when did they add the second cross bolt?

Your stock was used by another country after the war. The other cross lug is a repair for a crack Germans never added extra cross lugs they would just replace the stock. Russians and others did so it may have come off a russian capture 98k
