Deepest appologies my dear, Should have checked your name, bit of a giveaway.

Have you tried replacing the mag components like spring platform etc? Greased the extactor? extractor spring? Its got to be mag or extractor related. Does the cart even enter the breech, or does it pop up and the bolt miss catching the base of the round?

Its hard to know without playing with it.

No worries, m3..it's happened before as these aren't the types of questions most girls ask...

No, haven't tried any of that yet. This is the kind of stuff I want to know to look for/at or have someone else who knows what they are doing looking at it. Cartridge never enters breech, pops up and no, doesn't catch the base of the round. That's what is so bizarre though... only on that one round. I know they all have their little quirks, just like people, but
Like I said.. open to any suggestions as long as it's not like some I've had involving drilling, cutting or shaving it in any way. I know it won't sound odd to say here, but I'm very attached to it!!
Keep the ideas coming. Ta very much everyone!!
Kelly

hmm sounds like the spring may be miss places take the mag base off by putthing a screwdriver in the hole just infront of the trigger gaurd and push it and push the mag base back then push the spring so its as far foward as it can go and on the feed tray aswell

I would think fixing is somthing simple, no need to start butchering it up, do you have some drill rounds to test with? Experiment with diffrent components, positions, grease, etc. etc.

Are the blanks crimped full length blanks? Perhaps a little shorter than live rounds? It sounds very much like the nose of the round is poping out and upwards of the mag lip and the bolt head is catching the side of the case.

I'll see if I can get a photo of the Enfield I have that does it.

Reidmuller! You should be ashamed! Screw driver! Use the spoon tool out of the cleaning kit, its what its for!

Besides that I think your right mate. Sounds like a weak mag spring. 'specally if ifs the same 1939. Dissemble the mag by poping off the floor plate, check its seated properly, clean, refit, try again, if same, replace springwith a new one. Not an old one off a Dutch trader etc. Get a new one together with the tray as that could be worn..

Failing that Irisheyz I'll have a squint at it or my mate, even better, at a show if we are both there. No promises be you never know we may see something.

Thanks guys, wish I WERE there.. several reasons. And I doubt I would be allowed to bring it into the country at Detling either. Oh well. I will give it a go with the spring... and Reidmuller, how do you know I don't have a proper cleaning kit, eh? ;-)

Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate the suggestions.

Kelly

make sure there are no sharp edges hitting the cases. sometimes that can cause a jam.I also had a problem with jamming and my yugo M48A wont feed more than 3 blanks. It really depends on who makes the blanks.A trick that I use is to take some flitz polishing paste on a patch and polish the chamber. My k98 used to have a problem with turkish rounds but polishing the chamber helped with the hot extraction problem. If you can't find a spring you can stretch the spring slightly to provide more tension.I hope this helps .

Thanks very much mx, those are some additional things I will try. I appreciate the advice.

Cheers,
Kelly

Hi sorry to come in on this one, but i had a similar problem.

A worn feed tray, if it no longer has defined edges, this could cause your problem, since changing it the rifle fires every time.

Hmmm... another good suggestion. Looks like I'll end up replacing all her parts before it's all said and done  I'll be able to retire her if I can get the M-1 Carbine to behave!! I love my K-98, but I'd like to put her aside and use a more re-enactor grade weapon for private battles instead.

Thanks again everyone for all the suggestions.
