Could this be RAF ??

Looking at the color is why I ask, it is broad arrow marked and dated as you can see but that is all, there are no other markings, there also seems to be a 'mod' to the glass so it can be lit easier, something I have not seen before on a pressure lamp, but that's it .. opinions please ...

...and no .. its not 1957 :D

Wouldn't it be marked with 'AM' if it was RAF issued?

Yes there is that .. and of course there were some made specifically for the RAF .. and other services .. I think though also that sometimes things were bought and simply painted ... ??

I'm going by the date for one thing, the broad arrow signifies military issue surely, that plus the color (definitely I think RAF blue of the period) is what made me wonder ..

Interestingly the tank is metal, not brass, again perhaps an indicator of period manufacture and issue ??

Yes, I was going to say if it was RAF it would be marked AM. (And, being pedantic, isn't brass a metal? ;) )

If RAF it would most likley have the 'AM' and a stores code i.e. 5A = Ground Lighting and Miscellaneous Equipment

Being of many parts and has civilian use post war it could be a mix of wartime and post war items hence the colour and other issues you point out...

Lets get one thing straight, I'm not trying to pass something off as being something it isn't .. just applying a little bit of logic to it.

That it is military cant be denied with the broad arrow .. .. Vapalux didn't become Vapalux Bi-Aladdin until 1946 so the name is right for the period, as is the steel tank, they both tie in with the date.
As to the color, I was in the RAF for 13 years from 1966 .. saw a great deal of equipment and as anyone who has been in the services will know not everything that was used was marked as coming from stores ... it is the right color for RAF .. was it issue, maybe not, LAH650 is probably close, a mixture of parts perhaps ... but from a re-enactment viewpoint, (not so much a collectible one), would it be acceptable on an RAF display ?

It works and is period-correct... I doubt 75 years ago anyone would care if their lantern had the proper stamps or colour, as long as it worked.
