I wondered if anyone had seen another dated raf rifle sling before?
Looks like it has deatils of the roll of webbing?
Can just make out MECo and with the eye of failth 1938 or 39?
Equally it could be a 50's date

it does look more like 1957 in the pic than it does in the flesh, might try wetting it a little when it's daylight again.

Have you tried using a magnifying lens to look at date?

I did use a concave lense, but i have a really strong magnifier somewhere. I'll have a look on Sat when I ahve some proper daylight, no point doing it when I get home form work.

That's a bit like zooming in to be honest, the closer you get it becomes more indistinct ...

.. aaahh ok ... :D ... actually though if you look at the enhanced pic I did .. you can see a 38 quite clearly in the first box along the sling ... doesn't really match the second box figures tho ... ??

I have to admire your tenacity and eye of faith :D .. I still cant see it myself but there you go, I've had training in photo interpretation and so perhaps look at things differently sometimes .. as I say I hope it is, it would be nice .. but .. ??

Having said that of course, if it is 1930's pattern and spec, does the date make that much of a difference ..??

It's a bit like a magic eye picture, if you go slightly crossed eyed you might see it.
Could be my eyesight of course :D

You could try to wetten the stamped part a bit, on khaki webbing at least that usually seems to bring up the stampings enough to read.
