When were stable belts introduced into raf ?

I have only seen 1 wartime photograph of an airman wearing something similar, when working on a veggy patch at the rear of a hut ?

im pretty sure they where introduced in the 50's.
On a tangent, i wear mine for work, breaks up the colour of PCS, looks cool :)
