My partners grandfather passed away recently, Bert was 97 ex RAF rear gunner.
We didnt have an awful lot to piece together his history as he was burgled some time ago and most of his war related items were taken inc medals which were kept in a box with some other items.
As usual with most vets he didnt like to talk much about his experiences but over a game of dominos or cards he would sometimes give little snippets when his mind wondered...
He will be cremated then laid to rest alongside his wife tomorrow, he battled on without her for the past 25 years.
RIP Bert, you made me laugh and yes you nearly got that bloody telegram mate !

Steve.

Sad news Steve.

They are all there or there abouts.

I learnt yesterday of my friend's passing a few weeks ago after spotting an unopened email.

Not a real shock given his age, but sad none the less.

A sad loss of one of our Greatest Generation, I have met a few and have always shook their hand and said thank you, yes they had a great sense of humour and true Gentlemen, RIP Bert.

Thanks....
This was Bert, having a chuckle at the Yanks when we took him along to Rufford a couple of years ago.

Great photo of Bert he looks happy being with you Steve, you guys not only give our WW2 Veterans respect, but also enjoyment, I met a WW2 veteran in 2005 who was in a boxing photo with my Dad who also served in WW2, the photo was taken in 1936, Always Remembered, Never Forgotten.
