This is a modern aiming post presumably for a machine gun (?), but is it a war-time pattern?

It looks like the 'Aiming post M.G., Mk.3' used during W.W.2 and post-war in conjunction with the dial sight.

Mk 3 aiming post was used with the GPMG but only briefly (i.e. 1962 to 1968 period) as it then shows the zero post type arrangement and there was an adaptor issued for the Mk 3 lamp to fit onto the post. These are usually dated on the triangular base piece stamped into the top.

No visible markings on it and there is only one thin spray coat of paint.

I will ask the person I got it from if they are still in use as this was only released very recently.
