I recently bought a Bren Mk1 throught this forum, fantastic bit of kit!
Looking at it today I noticed that it has what appears to be a dark green paint along the sides, would this have been a period paint job? And who would it have been done for (eg. Commandos or some such?).

thanks

If its Australian Lithgow Manufactured it may have been painted for Jungle use.
The Australian Owen SMG was painted a cammo green and a sandy colour.
Just a thought although never seen one or heard of a Bren being painted.

I used to have a Sten with a crudely applied dk green and almost pea green camo pattern, it looked a bit mad but had certainly been on the gun for a long time , and had lots of wear to the paint commensurate with it having been well used in action !

I used to have a Bren Gun with green paint on but with something like a Sten Gun I would suspect post-war application.

Pitty you no longer have it so we could see the colours.

I noticed this one before, I think it was from the I.W.M. collection and appears to be painted as per the guidelines stated above.
