Very interesting, thanks Chris, do you intend to recreate the sail rig and to sail your recreation Mk. 8 too?

Yes - it's only a simple lateen rig - loose footed so not much to it really.

Is there any sort of outrigger or keel needed for sailing, I'd imagine stability as an issue otherwise?

They have adjustable outriggers, you can see them on this original photo.

Quite a bit's happened since I last posted.

1. We now have an original engine. Complete but currently a non-runner)
2 We have skinned the main section and the stern with plywood.
3 Hatch covers finished (in aluminium)
4. Steering gear and rudder complete
5. Lots of ancillary equipment sourced.

Still looking for someone with the engineering know-how to construct the engine raising mechanism - basically a big screw thread... and I mean big.

There are three interlocking tubes. One of which has the screw thread visible. It takes one turn of the 'wheel' to make the engine completely descend.

The i/s diameter of the inner tube is about 250mm.

Here's a few phots, including the latest work on the canoe.

Found this, the only movie of one of these canoes in action. This one is a Mk 6 (the two man model) but is essentially the same. When they set off you can see the exhaust.

It's about 9m 32s in.
