Hi everyone,

I picked up two Enfield Rifle Oil bottles the other day. One is fairly standard while the second one has a knurled screw top. I've never seen one like this before and I was wondering if anyone has any information about this variation? It has little in the way of markings too. Please see attached pictures of the two oil bottles.

Ta,

Chris

Erm... ..but they're both knurled?

One knurled with horizontal impressions and one with cross-diagonal impressions. I have examples of both in my collection. Horizontal knurling does appear to be the most common form found, but I guess it's just whatever tools were handy at the time to complete production quotas.

In the second to last picture, could that be a Canadian braod arrow mark worn away a bit?

Thanks, I hadn't come across one with cross-diagonal knurling before. Cheers for the help.

Or just badly stamped - well spotted that man! Yes, certainly looks like it:
