I am looking to purchase an smle for various purposes including target shooting and living history. I quite fancied a 7.62 for the shooting part but it would not pass muster for living history. Could a 303 magazine still be fitted to make it look ok? Are there other major differences that would stand out does anyone know?

Not seen a SMLE in 7.62 , No. 4s do turn up in 7.62 , why not go for .303 nothing wrong with it , service rifle discipline , best thing to do is find yourself a local club and join as a probationer [ 6 months ] and see what they can do for you . Most clubs have a training programme to get you experienced and safe , this gives you time to apply for a FAC and decide on what you want to apply for , in the way of calibre etc. with the local police service .
If you cant find a local club ask at the police firearms dept as they will know all the local clubs and firearms dealers in your area .

Lots of Smle in 7.62 if you want an Ish

Magazines interchange.

although whynot have 303 and 7.62 on your ticket and get 2 guns (bear in mind you have to go to the range regularly if claim target shooting)

You dont need a live firer for livinghistory though..
