 Post subject: flare pistol id needed

Whilst on a recent visit to a 1950's Devon veteran he showed me a flare pistol he acquired in the past, the gun was similar to the picture shown but without the wheel type thing shown in the picture (maybe it was missing) there was no markings on it at all. can anybody help id this weapon.

Italian, I think, going by Bresica I know they made bayonets, might be a war economy model?

The handle has the same aluminium grips, and he has had since his army days and unfortunately is off ticket.
