In the Thin red line the shotgun used by one of the soldiers, am I right in thinking its a winchester model 12 combat shotgun, or is it a a 1897 winchester trench shotgun. Both look very similar but what one is it.

regards
Glen

I believe it did then again so does the 1897 trench shotgun, but it did not have a hammer, which the winchester model 12 has'nt got where as the 1897 one has, so I think its the model 12 as it is hammerless, but I'm still not sure.

Found it. Looked at the film closer and the shotgun is hammerless, making it the Winchester model 12 combat shotgun, see it does'nt have a hammer like the 1897 trench gun does.

Better ask Lloyd (The Sarge - 4mardiv on here I think) - he is the only person I know who has one.

if you look closely at the scene where they attack through the jap hospital you can see when they shoot in to the tree that it is a m1897 as the action cycles out past the hammer, which is all enclosed on the m1912,stevens,ithaca,e.t.c.

I've seen the model 12's deact for around £250-£300, I almost certain there were quite a few at Beltring last year.
