BN with an 8 featured on the very early production M8 scabbards.....you have a nice one there.

The flaming bomb orientation will give you an clue as to maker.....if theres no blade marking which there should be.

If not then the maker mark was on the crossguard which dates the knife to post July 1944 when they switched due to fears of the stamping on the blade weakening it.

Regards

Lloyd

the bomb is on the same orientation as the knife blade, I supoose you'd call it portait, and in this case the flame of the top of the bomb is pointing downwards with the full cutting blade edge. If that makes sense?

I think you may be mistaking the pommel mark(where the tang has been punched as it comes through the pommel) for the ordnance mark, may be next to it on left? Hard to see on my PC cheers Jez

There's a single diagonal line on the left, anything else looks like wear marks.
There could be somehitng on the far right, but i'm not sure, I'll try a better pic tomorrow

Ok mate, as Lloyd has said different makers different styles of flaming bomb, also the depth of the mark differs, some are very lightly stamped
Cheers Jez

After giving it a bit of a clean, 1 little flaming bomb
If you take the full cutting edge of the blade as the bottom, then the flame of the bomb points to the left.

In my opinion I think that the maker mark and flaming bomb have been ground off the blade and the pommel bomb has been erased by punch marks toake it sterile or civilianised .

Lloyd

I'm fairly sure the pommel bomb is there, can just about see the circle of the bomb, looks better than i can take a pic of. Wouldn't surprise me if it had been removed off the blade.
