I've never seen any in 1944 at all. Think that there was a photo of one in early 1945 in the Ardennes that I saw at one point, but the next instance is the 17th Airborne in March 1945.

Look closer at other photos from Jan 45 onwards and you'll probably find more - they were probably in the resupply shipments that were issued out in January 45 after the main Bulge fighting was over.

Cheers,
Glen.

Think he is basing his flawed argument on when they were standardised......rather than issued.........in 1944.

First universally accepted picture is January 1945 in the Ardennes.......none seen before.......

using some logic here the draftee divisions arriving in the ETO early 1945 surely would have been issued them in lieu of the M3 knife for which they were to replace.

Its actually funny that the M4 knife bayonet was standardised in Mid 44 so issue would have been seen soon after standardisation....and the Type 3 bayonet lug attachment standardised in November 1944 and no proven photgraphic evidence of a Bayonet lug on a carbine in the ETO during WW2......grainy evidence "MAY" point to them on Okinawa in July 1945....but that is still yet to be proven.

and NO you have NOT seen a pic of one in use by E/506 on D Day......go with fact not fiction.

Regards

LLoyd
