It looks like a standard M2 Grenade to me.

The base of the Grenade itself....does it look as if there was something attached to it?

Cheers - it looks as if it could be a practise grenade of some description - the fly off lever and fuse assembly could never safely hold a detonator (I asked about the base of the Grenade because I thought it could have been a rifle Grenade of some sort)

Do I see a screw-thread in the insert in the handle?

You may find that it was something stupid post-war civilian, like an added candle holder or suchlike.

Definitely not a practice grenade, as it is the "live" colours.
