I'm after some 81mm tubes now.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Paul

I had the dimensions of the 81mm cardboard tubes somewhere. I sent them off to a custom tube manufacturer last years and was told they couldn't make them.

oh I see they are not that sophisticated, they are just tubes with end caps and the correct type sealing labels, they do not split, you want that they cost big money and the order is huge.

Mine are cheap and cheerful, only illum and WP smoke 60mm left £ 15 for 10

Hello, I bought them on ebay and they are really terrible.. they are too big - you can put whole original in it! the paper is too thin and soft and there is something printed in, there is no inner little tube, the encups are steel but there's no writing on them...

If you are interested, my friend makes great copies, really great, the only difference is that the endcups are not made from steel, but resin (to have the writings there..)... If you wanted just the cut unpainted paper tubes (1 long, 2 bigger and the short inner one) it is possible, too. If you wanted eny lenght of the paper (he has cut tubes to start grenade containers) it's no problem to make it. I have bought original illumination round tube, so we are going to make copies of it and I am sure that all 3 tubes have the same diamaters as the bazooka tube, but we don't have the original to know the lenght and to make the endcups... Sending you a photo of his prototype on the left with original on the right...
Price is somewhere around 10GBP/1 pcs
Frankie

Guys,

I don't know whether this is worth a punt but I noticed that Morrisons are selling cardboard bottle tubes for Christmas. They're 2GBP and could be a very close match. Hobbycraft also sell them (for 2.99GBP). I roughly measured the diameter of a tube and it was about the right size.

Unfortunately I don't have a 81mm mortar bomb on hand right now so I can't tell you whether they are a good fit.

The tubes are covered with festive paper but that could be carefully stripped back or just spray painted matt black.

Just remember which hold the bombs and which holds the booze. You don't want to bomb the enemy with your favourite bottle of Southern Comfort. Or maybe you do... :)

Hope this tip may help.

Paul

I've finally had a chance to try out an 81mm mortar bomb in the tube and, unfortunately, the tube is about an inch too short. :( The tube itself is a pretty good fit, diameter-wise.

But, the tubes may work as background props, stacked up with nothing in them but looking like they're ready for use.

And, of course, you could extend the tube with more cardboard. If you have the time and inclination, that is.

Paul
