Exactly that, thats for climb control as opposed to recoil damping, but same thing...

I've often wondered why the M1A1 never had one... cost I know, but effeciency?

BTW If you look at WW2 tank guns you'll see some types have and some types haven't got the breaks on... its all to do with individual problems with the gun and the mount.
