As I have lent my reference books to a mate I wondered if someone on here would be able to answer this. Who actually carried the MKII 'Lifebuoy' in an Infantry Coy? Or would it be carried by a supporting attachment of RE?

Interesting question, I'd have thought as it's most assuredly a weapon it would be used by an infantry soldier ( with the appropriate training ) rather than an RE 'support' bod, who's not a direct combatant as such...?

I was always under the impression they were added to the Machine Gun Battalion early in the campaign. I could be wrong though.
